This exhibition was the result of an expedition led by Pedro Portugal to the archives, collections, cellars, attics, reserves, libraries and collections of the former College of Nobles and the Polytechnic School of Lisbon, now the Museum of Science and Natural History of the Univeridade de Lisboa.
The experiment consisted on relating the natural and unnatural objects of the collections to a different taxonomic procedure to produce essentially visual outcomes and conditioning the whole history to be contemporary in the way contemporary art does.
Bones, instruments, fossils, plants, naturalized animals, photographs and books presented in the GABINETE DA POLITÉCNICA were re-interlinked. All objects were subjected to an artificial induction of abstraction in which its meaning was devitalized and flattened. Thus envisioning that they could become part of a new order of knowledge supporting a new level of efficacy and utility.
